Standard Board
This board is traditionally made from unpurified woodpulp. Woodpulp contains Lignin, which is the component in wood that generates acid as the board ages. Think about what happens when you put a Newspaper in the sun for any length of time. It yellows very quickly. Acid shows as a brown like stain within the board and tends to migrate onto the artwork, particularly at the cut edge of the windowmount. Not only is this very unsightly but it will ruin any image placed under the windowmount very quickly.
Conservation - White Core Board
This is made from woodpulp which has been chemically treated to remove the lignin. Conservation board should contain no post-consumer waste. It s available as a solid board and also as paper-faced board.
